Generative AI Adoption and Faculty Development in Higher Education: A Bibliometric Analysis and Science Mapping Study
Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is transforming higher education, raising questions about faculty adoption, professional development, and pedagogical integration. Although research on GenAI has expanded rapidly, its intellectual foundations, conceptual structure, and thematic evolution remain insufficiently mapped from a faculty-centered perspective.
This study examines the development of scientific research on GenAI adoption among higher-education faculty between 2023 and 2026. Bibliographic records were retrieved from Scopus and screened according to predefined eligibility criteria. Of 97 initial records, 71 articles were retained. Bibliometric analysis and science mapping were conducted using Bibliometrix and Biblioshiny. The analytical procedures included publication performance, keyword co-occurrence, thematic evolution, co-citation analysis, and international collaboration networks.
